HWA places strong emphasis on moral and ethical practices, coupled with prompt client communication and timely results.
Hughes, Watters and Askanase—often known simply as HWA to clients—was originally founded more than 30 years ago as a real estate, banking, and trustee/debtor bankruptcy boutique practice.
Today, HWA is one of the most successful law firms within the Lone Star state, with a full-time staff that includes 30 attorneys. It’s also an active participant in the communities it serves, supporting a wide range of charities from Habitat for Humanity to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
The evolution of the firm into a full service commercial law firm began in 1994 when Carolyn Taylor and Lawrence Young established the firm’s default servicing and consumer financial services practice groups. The growth of those practice areas exposed HWA first-hand to the myriad of issues faced by lenders, servicers and others in the financial services industry, leading the firm to expand its capabilities to match clients’ needs.
The firm provides a “one-stop shop” with “cradle to grave” representation that spans commercial and consumer lenders of all varieties, including banks and credit unions, business bankruptcy, business planning and strategy, default servicing, real estate and finance, and commercial and consumer financial services, and litigation.
A member of the Fannie Mae Retained Attorney Network and the Freddie Mac Designated Counsel Program in Texas, and rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell, HWA places strong emphasis on moral and ethical practices, coupled with prompt client communication and timely results.
The firm enjoys a stellar reputation not only with clients, but also with members of the judiciary in Texas as well as nationally. HWA focuses on those interrelated areas that provide the greatest opportunities and most challenging obstacles for the mortgage and financial services industries. The firm’s wealth of resources enables each practice group to leverage its experience with other practice groups within the firm. This model enables HWA to provide cost-effective, yet comprehensive advice and representation to its clients.
